Product Safety Alert – Holiday Gift Daily #34

Traditionally, the end of the year is a time of conviviality and togetherness. Giving presents is an undeniable part of this. But what should you pay attention to when it comes to the safety of these presents? There are still many unsafe products on offer. You do not want your loved-ones to be hurt.

We are here to keep you up to date on the latest developments in product safety. We monitor closely products that are being withdrawn from the market because of included hazardous parts. On the other hand, we provide information on details you should look out for when purchasing products that are still available.

Stone and Clark Pull ‘n Play Xylophone

Today we draw your attention to a musical toy xylophone from the brand Stone and Clark. It was found in the UK. This toy xylophone is in the shape of a bear with a puzzle block shape sorter on the side, wheels and pull-along cord. Sold via Amazon in the UK between August 2020 and October 2021.

The toy has been assessed as presenting a serious risk of strangulation as the cord of the pull along-toy has a length of 470mm when subject to a tensile force of 25N, in excess of the maximum permissible limit of 220mm. As the cord is too long, a child may get entangled with the cord and it may wrap around their neck, presenting a risk of strangulation. The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

This product was withdrawn from the market and we advice consumers that have already purchased this product to cease using it and contact the dealer or retailer where it was bought.
